Again, here I was thinking I was pretty techno-savvy, a digital native/digital immigrant hybrid, when BAM! I get hit with a technology that’s been around for quite a while that I never even bothered to look at. One of those ones that makes you look at your reflection in the glossy screen of your laptop and say, “Well, duh!” Tags. Nope, not the kind in your clothes, but tags that help you identify things…like bookmarks. I don’t know about other people, but I have literally hundreds of bookmarks. Which one was I looking at last week when I was researching topic x? You know, the one that had the really good information on how to…? Next I end up clicking on all of them, scrolling through pages looking for that one tidbit I need, but can’t quite remember the location of with my 43-year-old brain. Under my bookmarks drop-down is a spot for “Recently Bookmarked” items. Of course, nothing there rings a bell, and I don’t know what “Recently Tagged” means. More on this shortly.
And those hundreds of bookmarks I mentioned? They are all on 4 different laptops and 2 desktop computers. As a teacher, I am constantly doing research on better ways to teach concepts in the curriculum. Surfing the ‘net, finding all sorts of interesting things, some I use right now, and some that I’m just sure I’ll use…someday. Problem: Someday doesn’t always arrive prior to my acquisition of a new computer. Now I have to re-research those fascinating sites. Today as I was reading one of the blogs I subscribe to, contemplating the uses of SecondLife, I noticed (not for the first time) that little “del.icio.us” icon somewhere on the page. Only this time, I decided to investigate what on earth it was. To use the current texting lingo, OMG! I can put all of my bookmarks, from ALL of my computers, in one spot and access them from anywhere! I don’t know why I’m amazed, but I am. Oh, and the tagging thing? Del.icio.us informs me that I can “tag” all of those bookmarks with keywords that I actually might remember. While my mind is still functional, I manage to put two and two together, and also tag the bookmarks that are on this laptop.
Recently tagged, heh heh. I get it now.

Why Podcast?
As teachers, we are all VERY busy!! Why on earth should we add ONE - MORE - THING to our already long list of teaching chores?? Podcasting? Who cares?!?!
